A hearing rarely turns on the argument you prepared. It turns on the one you didn't. These five checks help find that argument early. For each, here is where a legal AI workspace such as FORHU's ilovelawyer can give you a first draft.

1. List their three strongest arguments, not the easiest ones. Write them as opposing counsel would say them. In ilovelawyer: the Red Team pane lists opposing counsel's likely arguments, ranked by threat, each with a suggested response.

2. Look for places where your evidence disagrees with itself. Check the dates, amounts and durations. These conflicts go to credibility. In ilovelawyer: the Contradiction scan shows each conflict with both documents, the page and a severity, and you can dismiss false positives.

3. Tell the story from their side. Write one paragraph of the facts as the other side will present them. In ilovelawyer: Case Reconstruction writes the narrative three ways (general, for the court, and from the other side), and lists what it does not cover.

4. Match every weakness to an answer. For each weak point, note the document that answers it, or the evidence you still need. In ilovelawyer: Attack and Defense Strategies hold your moves and your answers to their likely defences, AI-drafted or written by hand.

5. If colleagues disagree, find the evidence that decides it. Don't average two theories into one. In ilovelawyer (firms): Case Theories keeps each lawyer's theory side by side. Its diff shows what they share, where they differ, and the evidence that would settle it.

The rule for all five: software can start the list, but the lawyer decides. ilovelawyer presents its output as provisional assessments, with no outcome predictions.
